ACADEMIC CHALLENGE BOWL – GRADES 7-8

ACB is a team competition between area schools that tests general knowledge. What makes this competition so challenging is that it covers every possible topic and there is no prior knowledge of the questions.

The Academic Challenge Bowl’s format is similar to quick recall academic quiz bowl programs seen on television. 7th and/or 8th grade students from each participating district compete in preliminary rounds against students from every other school. These preliminaries are followed by playoffs and a championship tournament.

The categories may include but are not limited to:  General Knowledge, Science, History, Math, Literature and Language Arts, Current Events, Entertainment and Sports.

    ALL COUNTY CHORUS/BAND – GRADES 5-8

Students in Chorus in grades 5-6 and 7-8 are chosen to participate in the GWMEA All County Festivals I and II. It is an honor to play in an ensemble comprised of the best students in Genesee and Wyoming Counties

FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLUB – GRADES 7-8

We elect officers to fulfill jobs as president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. We meet approximately 4-5 times per year and we generally have one fundraiser. We organize a culminating event which also includes either a lunch or a dinner at a foreign restaurant. During the meetings we invite people from other countries to speak to us about their life “back home”. We also listen to foreign music, play games, celebrate Christmas customs from foreign countries and enjoy some of their specialty foods. If a student is on the ineligibility list or is serving detention, he/she may not attend the meeting for that day.

    HOMEWORK CLUB – GRADES 5-8

Any students that wish to work on homework are eligible to come to Homework Club after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in grades 4-8. Extra help is given in areas of need to the students. This is a great opportunity to get caught up in needed areas, use the computer for research and receive tutoring. Students staying for Homework Club must utilize this time to complete work.
